2017 Chamber Business Awards

Congratulations to the 2017 Chamber Business Award Winners!

CUSTOMER SERVICE EXCELLENCE: Christopher Nguyen (Com & Eat Mobile Concession & Catering)
Christopher and his wife Doreen have been operating for almost two years in Taber. They are super involved in the community and participate in many fund-raising events. They are willing to work with other groups, even going so far as to cancel operations one day when the fire fighters were hosting a fundraiser to encourage others to purchase from the firefighters and not themselves. They are well liked and respected in the community.

Joe has been a resident of Taber for 68 years, arriving with his parents in 1949. He remembers being served a hot dog at our community centre ice arena by a Lions Club member way back then. From that time on Joe has been at the rink either as a coach, on the hockey board or sharpening skates for our Taber youngsters. He's been with the Taber Lions CLub for over 40 years serving many hot dogs. Close to 5 decades, Joe operated his business JCST Sports in Taber until he retired from business in 2006. As his nominee states "It's impossible to list all the things Joe has accomplished but he never stops accomplishing something every year. He volunteers for the Lions Club, Taber Legion, Clearview Lodge, Parkside Manor and the list goes on. He will help out any group organization in Taber, all you have to do is ask him and he is there for you. It's impossible to list all his quiet acts of kindness, he definitely deserves this outstanding award".

They've been in Taber for many years and this is their first win. This past year for Canada's 150th celebration year they offered free bowling to Taber's Youth. Owner Harry Prummel has been involved in many Service Organizations over the years including Community Futures, Taber Municipal Police Commission as well as the Taber Chamber of Commerce. They have been actively involved with Midnight Madness for about 4 years now, offering free bowling that evening as well as donating a door prize. As the nominee said "It's always very obvious that it's not about the money, it's about the customer's experience. Everyone leaves the Taber Bowling Alley with a smile".

SPIRIT OF TABER: Taber Rebels Football Association

Taber Football Association run youth football in town including Atom, Peewee, Bantam and they also support the WR Myers high school team. They are a team of volunteers behind the scenes that meet regularly to plan fundraisers, game day prep an concession operations. They have also participated in the Cornfest parade the last few years. They were the driving force behind getting the locker rooms, announcers booth, concession and lights at the Ken MacDonald field. They are also involved in Cornfest including clean up, selling burgers, etc). As the nominee said "Taber Football Association and the coaches of all the teams promote our town as they travel around and play teams in other communities. The experience of playin on a football team also develops the athletes and gives them life skills that go far beyond the game".

Please join us, won't you, on January 19, 2018 to honor all our winners at our Annual Dinner & Awards Banquet. Though we do not announce all the nominees I can say that everyone was deserving and it was a very tough decision for our panel of judges. Keep nominating, I'm sure we have many very deserving businesses, organizations and people in our wonderful community!
