National Canadian Film Day (NCFD) is a massive one-day, coast-to-coast-to-coast celebration of Canadian cinema, on April 17, 2019.

We will be showing two Canadian movies to be determined and would like a great turn out! Popcorn will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own snacks and beverages too. Admission is free!

First film is a documentary feature at 1:00 pm - "Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance" (1993)

Second film is a theatrical feature at 6:45 pm - "Room" (2015)

The sixth annual National Canadian Film Day (NCFD) marks an important milestone: the centennial of Canada’s first genuine blockbuster — and oldest surviving feature film — Nell Shipman’s Back to God’s Country, a sassy, snowy adventure that remains Canada’s most successful silent film.B.C.-born Shipman is the powerhouse writer/producer behind the film, and her independent spirit epitomizes the best of the Canadian film industry: a thriving industry that produces outstanding, internationally recognized work that reflects our distinct cultural identity, in spite of our proximity to Hollywood. This year’s Spotlight Films look back on a century of Canadian cinema, offering our screening partners 100 films that are equally chock-full of snow and sass!
